Three weeks before Vashon Walker was charged with killing his girlfriend, the 23-year-old fractured a man’s jaw, police said Friday during a Columbus Recorder’s Court hearing.

Walker and his brother, 21-year-old Xzavier Walker, faced an aggravated battery charge Friday morning. The hearing comes days after Vashon Walker was charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend Jessica Osborne, a 28-year-old mother of three who recently moved from Mississippi to a home on Forrest Road. Last week, she appeared ecstatic in a Facebook video while talking about the home the couple intended to share.

Vashon Walker is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court this morning on the murder charge.

Detective Katina Williams testified Friday that police were called to Paris Drive around 1 a.m. May 31, after receiving reports that several shots had been fired in the area. They quickly found the victim, who had a severely swollen lip and several loose or missing teeth.

The 35-year-old victim told police he was standing in front of his vehicle when three men approached him with a pistol. One man, who had dreadlockeds, bludgeoned him with the weapon, Williams told the court.

She said several witnesses told police the same three men were seen firing the pistol throughout the neighborhood.

A female neighbor also told police she was approached by the three men at Paris Drive and Brown Avenue while attempting to get into her car. The victim said Vashon Walker continually asked her, “Where’s my car?” in a menacing manner until she claimed to be the cousin of someone they both knew.

Witnesses later identified Vashon Walker and Xzavier Walker as two of the suspects involved in the incidents.

Police are still seeking a third suspect.

Williams told the court the witnesses and victims involved in the cases did not attend the preliminary hearing because they were afraid of both suspects.

Judge Michael Cielinski set no bond on Vashon Walker’s charge. A $25,000 bond was set for Xzavier Walker.
