The Columbus Public Library will remain closed Saturday because of an air-conditioning problem.
The library was closed Thursday at noon when the main AC unit malfunctioned and stayed closed Friday while the repair continued, said Chattahoochee Valley Libraries programming and communications coordinator Henry McCoy.
The building at 3000 Macon Road is the library systems headquarters and houses its Internet servers. The other branches remained open Friday if they were scheduled to be, and patrons could check out materials there, but they didnt have Internet access, McCoy said.
The website, cvlga.org, and phone systems also were down at all Muscogee County branches: North Columbus Public Library, Mildred L. Terry Public Library and South Columbus Public Library. But the phones were working at the outlying branches when the Ledger-Enquirer called them Friday afternoon: Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Public Library, Marion County Public Library and Parks Memorial Public Library (in Richland).
Marion County library assistant Cathy Kaler said the staff allowed patrons to check out materials by hand while the electronic system was down.
Were just writing them on paper for now, she said, and when the Internet is back up, we will put them in everybodys account.
Whether the Columbus Public Library will open Sunday for its usual operating hours of 1:30 to 6 p.m. wont be known until Saturday afternoon, McCoy said. To check before you go, see the librarys Facebook page, which hasnt been affected by the shutdown, at facebook.com/chatlibraries.
