The Alabama man accused of pocketing $550 mislaid by a 73-year-old woman at Shark's Fish & Chicken was arrested Thursday, police officials confirmed.

Daryl Hasara was charged with theft by taking misdemeanor after he turned himself in to the Columbus Police Department Thursday morning. He was released on bond shortly after.

Sgt. John Crump said Hasara was captured on the Wynnton Road restaurant's surveillance footage stuffing the forgotten envelope, which contained the victim's cashed paycheck, into his to-go box as he was leaving the restaurant. The woman intended to use the money to pay bills.

Crump confronted the suspect at his Phenix City workplace after a citizen identified Hasara from the surveillance photos. He quickly confessed to the crime, saying his actions were "stupid."
