Detectives are investigating how a 21-year-old man was shot in the face Wednesday night during a burglary at his Sixth Avenue home, a police official said Wednesday.

Lt. Greg Touchberry said when officers initially responded to the 3200 block home, the victim told police he was beaten in his sleep by an unknown number of suspects around 2:45 a.m. The victim said when he woke in his living room his face was aching.

When the man was transported to the Midtown Medical Center, however, doctors discovered the man had a bullet lodged in his face.

The injury was not life-threatening, Touchberry said. He was listed in fair condition at the time of the report.

The victim has been uncooperative with detectives, and has not provided an explanation as to who might have shot him.

"There's a lot of questions that the detectives have, but he hasn't given us any information," Touchberry said. "So we're still working on this."
