A Columbus man accused of firing gunshots inside his Moon Road home was jailed early Friday after a police SWAT team was called to end a nearly six-hour standoff.
Gerald Wilcox, 46, was taken into custody about 3 a.m. at 5516 Moon Road. He was charged with reckless conduct and discharging a firearm within the city limits and held in the Muscogee County Jail. He was later released on bonds totaling more than $2,800 for an 8 a.m. hearing Saturday in Recorders Court.
Police were called to the home at 9:37 p.m. to check on shots fired when they observed a man inside still firing a weapon. Police sealed off the area and the SWAT team later entered the home.
Wilcox was arrested without incident. Evidence found at the scene indicated the suspect had fired a handgun inside the residence.
Police also found a Pit Bull dog inside the home. The pet was picked up by an animal control officer at the scene.
