Columbus Lions knock off Georgia Fire in regular-season finale


ROME, Ga. — The Columbus Lions closed out the regular season with a 69-55 win over the Georgia Fire on Friday night.

The victory gives the Lions (7-5) a two-game win streak as it heads into the Professional Indoor Football League playoffs next week. Lions quarterback Luke Halpin completed 18 of 25 passes for 204 yards and five touchdowns.

Three of those TD passes went to Jarmon Fortson, who finished with six catches for 72 yards.

Leroy Vann had seven catches for 88 yards and a score. Chris Davis added 67 yards on six catches and a touchdown. Kendrick Perry also caught a TD pass.

Backup quarterback Barry Brunetti played in the fourth quarter and also threw a touchdown pass.

Marvin Ross and Roshawn Marshall led the defense.

The Lions, which finished second in the American Conference, will travel to face Nashville (Tenn.), the American champion, in the PIFL semifinals at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5.
