A motorcycle with a stuck throttle has left a Phenix City boy dead on Bayview Drive and the driver in the hospital, authorities said Saturday.

Christopher Allen Haywood, 12, was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma at 1:15 p.m. Friday after the accident, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

The driver of the three-wheel motorcycle was taken to the hospital but information on his condition was unavailable.

The coroner said Haywood was a passenger on the motorcycle when the driver in his 30s went for a test drive. Sumbry said the throttle stuck and both occupants jumped from the motorcycle.

The boy’s body will be sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery on Monday for an autopsy.

The accident is under investigation by the Phenix City Police Department.
