Sparks wins Purple & Gold golf tournament by four shots

Cody Sparks won the 2014 Purple & Gold golf tournament by four shots over Chris Campos on Sunday at Fort Benning Golf Course.

Sparks, who shared the first-round after shooting a 68, shot a 72 on Sunday.

Campos shot two rounds of 72.

Levin Rentz, who shared the lead with Sparks, fired an 81 and finished fourth at 149.

Doug Maxwell shot a 148 (73-75) to finish third.

Other flight winners included Trey Upshaw, Greg Sandell, Walter Johnson, Mike Pelham, Jessie Gunn, John Innes, Willie Snow and Jessi Mitchell.

Hammock wins Country Club of Columbus men's title

Cason Hammock shot a 1-under-par 212 to win the Country Club of Columbus men's championship on Sunday.

Hammock shot rounds of 67, 74 and 71.

He finished four shots ahead of David James, Rhoades Sturkie and Stanton Schoor.

Trip Reynolds finished fifth, another four shots back.

Mel Mendenhall won the Senior Championship at 215 (70-72-73). He was 17 shots better than Robert Flowers.

Murray Calhoun III won the Super Senior title with a 222 (72-73-77). He was five better than Fred Miller.

Tish Hidle won the Ladies championship and Renee Sturkie won the Senior Ladies championship. Their scores were not available.
