School board: Wells turns down Thomas' debate challenge

John F. Thomas issued John Wells a debate challenge Monday as they campaign against each other in advance of the July 22 runoff for the District 2 seat on the Muscogee County School Board.

Thomas left a copy of the news release at Wells’ place on the board table before he arrived for the called meeting and work session.

The release announces Thomas is prepared to meet Wells "any place, any time and any day" before July 22 "to discuss all relevant issues of this campaign."

In the release, Thomas says a flyer the Wells campaign mailed accuses the Thomas campaign of "lies, deceit and flagrant disrespect."

Thomas' response: "Our campaign has successfully shed light on the dismal record of this 28-year incumbent, and he is now attacking my integrity."

Asked whether he will debate Thomas, Wells said, "That's not going to happen. I'm not going to give him the dignity of digging out from the mud hole he dug for himself."
