Orioles-Nationals game postponed because of rain, to be made up Aug. 4

The Baltimore SunJuly 8, 2014

WASHINGTON_After a 2-hour, 30-minute rain delay, Tuesday's game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals was postponed because of rain.

It will be made up Aug. 4 on a mutual day off for the two teams.

The game was initially delayed before opening pitch because of approaching storms. It began raining shortly after the 7:05 p.m. scheduled start time, and precipitation didn't cease until 9:45 p.m.

The postponement delays Orioles right-hander Bud Norris' first start since returning from the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. Norris, who has won four straight starts, hasn't pitched for the Orioles since June 21, when he felt tightness in his groin while warming up for the sixth inning against the New York Yankees.

The Orioles haven't announced who will start Wednesday's game against the Nationals, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Camden Yards.

Initially, left-hander Wei-Yin Chen was the projected starter, with right-hander Miguel Gonzalez likely pitching Thursday in the series finale, and Ubaldo Jimenez taking the mound Friday against the New York Yankees. But the rainout could alter those plans.

This is the Orioles' fifth rainout of the year.
