Popovich agrees to extension with Spurs

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs and head coach Gregg Popovich agreed to a multi-year extension on Wednesday.

Terms of the new deal were not released.

The Spurs won the NBA title -- their fifth in Popovich's 18 years at the helm of the team -- in five games over the Miami Heat this past season, while finishing the regular season with the best record in the league at 62-20.

Popovich, 65, was named the NBA Coach of the Year for his team's efforts, marking the third time he took home the honor since being named head coach of the team in 1996.

Popovich has a regular-season record of 967-443 with the Spurs, as well as a 149-90 mark in the playoffs.
