The Warrior Training Center at Camp Butler in Harmony Church has a new commander to train National Guardsmen.
Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green assumed command from Lt. Col. Mark J. Bidwell during a Wednesday ceremony at Fort Benning. Bidwell has been assigned to the Training and Doctrine Command headquarters at Fort Eustis, Va., to serve as deputy chief of staff to the deputy commanding general of the Army National Guard.
Green's most recent assignment was at the Pentagon, serving as a strategic planner for the National Guard Bureau chief's action group. He has served as an engineer officer and on the staffs of several National Guard units.
Green graduated in 1995 from Missouri State University, where he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the engineer branch. He has a bachelor's degree in geography, a master's degree in human resources development and a master of military arts and science in theater operations.
During his career of nearly two decades, Green deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and once for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
The mission of the Warrior Training Center is to train Guardsmen in critical and special skills.
