AUGUSTA, Ga. — Richmond County officials say 23 people have been charged in drug investigations.
The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/VUWPMr ) reports that the arrests came in two long-term investigations, one involving a Harrisburg heroin operation and the other involving a south Richmond County methamphetamine operation.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration helped the Richmond County Sheriff's Office with the investigations.
Police say sales across the country have been linked to the Harrisburg operation while sales from the Richmond County operation had spread to Burke and Jefferson counties.
Police also recovered stolen vehicles while investigating the meth operation.
Police say 12 of the suspects were arrested, while the other 11 were already in other prisons or jails on unrelated charges and will be sent to Richmond County.
