American Little League 9-10 baseball all-stars win opener 10-6 over Oconee County

The American Little League 9-10 baseball all-stars opened the state tournament with a 10-6 victory over Oconee County on Saturday afternoon.

American is in Pool A. The other game in that pool was Vine Ingel beating Cartersville 31-3.

In Pool B games, Elbert County beat West Point 19-0 and Murphey Candler beat Hart County 15-10.

American has Sunday off and will play Cartersville at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

American is hosting the tournament at Double Churches Park.

In 11-12 softball, Pioneer opened the state tournament with a 4-1 loss to Warner Robins in West Point. Raelee Weaver hit a homer for Pioneer. Pioneer plays its second game at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Northern 9-10 softball team had a bye on Saturday.

It will play Franklin County at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in West Point.

The Northern 10-11 baseball team beat Smyrna 15-13 in Cartersville. Zach Joyner and Conner O'Neal hit homers for Northern, which plays the host team at 3 p.m. Sunday.

In the Dixie Junior Boys state tournament at Britt David, West Georgia Purple beat West Georgia Host 15-2 and Baldwin County beat Newton County 10-2.

In the Dixie Boys at Britt David, Troup beat West Georgia 15-4, Warner Robins beat Buford 20-4 and Newton County beat Mill Creek 13-7.

In Dixie Majors, West Georgia beat Mountain Park 12-0.
