Auburn football spring update
2007 record: 9-4 (5-3 SEC), beat Clemson 23-20 in overtime in the Chick-fil-A Bowl
Returning starters: 9 offense, 6 defense, 2 specialists
Key losses: QB Brandon Cox, DE Quentin Groves, DT Pat Sims, DT Josh Thompson, CB Jonathan Wilhite, CB Pat Lee
Key additions: Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads, WR Terrell Zachery, QB Chris Todd, WR Quindarius Carr, DE Raven Gray
Star of spring: Slot receivers Zachery and Robert Dunn excelled in Auburn's new spread offense. Dunn missed a number of practices because of a class, but still managed to be impressive in all the scrimmages. Spring storyline: The quarterback battle between Kodi Burns and Chris Todd continues. Todd was held out for almost a week as he battled soreness in his shoulder. He has more experience in the offense, but Burns gained steam late in the spring, finishing strong at A-Day and Auburn's final scrimmage a few days later. His athleticism pleases offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, but Burns still has improvement to make.
Coach Tommy Tuberville said: “We had a good spring, a good 15 days. We got a lot out of it. We got a lot accomplished. I'm impressed with everybody on offense. We got better, but we're not what we need to be. We've got to be a lot better to have a chance to get to Atlanta . Defensively, we run well. We've got a lot of speed.”
