SOUTH CAROLINA 6, GEORGIA 1
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Nick Ebert hit a home run as South Carolina finished a sweep of Georgia at Carolina Stadium.
Ebert finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and the weekend 5-for-8 with four home runs and 10 RBIs.
“We are fighting it,” Georgia coach David Perno said in a press release. “We can’t get any consistency from anybody. Hopefully we’ll get it going. We have been fighting it for a couple of weeks. When we turn it around it will take pressure off some of the guys and we will go from there.”
The Bulldogs (35-20, 15-15 SEC) fell to 3-18 against the Gamecocks (36-19, 17-13 SEC) in Columbia going back to 1996.
South Carolina scored a run in the first inning on a two-out single by Ebert to go ahead 1-0. Ebert then hit his fourth home run of the series in the fourth inning to give the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead.
Georgia scored its first run on an RBI groundout by Rich Poythress in the eighth to cut the lead to 2-1. It was Poythress’ 77th RBI of the year, tying Gordon Beckham’s single season record from last year.
