Former Columbus goaltender Chad Rycroft is returning to the Cottonmouths for the 2008-09 season, the team announced Wednesday.
He is the first person the Snakes have signed for next season.
Rycroft led the Snakes to the SPHL championship in his first season, 2004-05. In his third and final season, 2006-07, he led Columbus to the regular-season title.
He retired from professional hockey after that season. He played in a senior hockey league in Canada last season.
“Chad was one of the premiere goalies in our league, and hopefully still is,” Snakes coach Jerome Bechard said in a press release. “I believe with his in-your-face, confident attitude, he can be one of the driving forces for us to achieve our ultimate goal of bringing back the President’s Cup. He leads by example and leaves everything on the ice. I believe he provides great leadership in the locker room as well.”
