Happy New Year and congratulations to some folks

Happy New Year!

Here’s hoping for a much better 2009. I made the mistake of looking at my last 401-K statement when it came in the mail. If I were one to get depressed, I’d be needing professional help right now.

What I’m going to do is to make sure I don’t open the next statement that arrives.

History honors

I wrote about this on our “breaking news” site, but I failed to write about it anywhere else.

Mike Bunn, associate curator of history at the Columbus Museum and Virginia Causey, a Columbus State University history professor, received the Roger K. Warwick Local History Achievement Award from the Georgia Historical Society on Dec. 4 at the site of the new National Infantry Museum.

The award wass for their work on exhibitions and educational programs on Columbus history, in particular, the “Chattahoochee Valley World War II Home Front” exhibit. Bunn worked with the Shaw High School Young Historians Club to gather oral interviews that were videotaped, edited and shown as part of the exhibit.

Congratulations to Mike and Virginia, however belatedly, it is heart-felt.

Get your ballet slippers

Ever wonder what it would be like to take some ballet classes?

Wonder no longer. The Columbus Ballet will hold an open house from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Rankin Arts Center, 1004 Broadway.

Parents and new students can talk to the instructors, tour the facility and maybe even talk to current students.

You can also sign up for classes that begin Jan. 8 in ballet, jazz and tap. But, of course, the main focus is ballet.

There are separate classes for boys. And adults.
