Have you seen the Bacon Explosion?
It’s two pounds of Italian sausage wrapped with two pounds of bacon slathered with barbecue sauce that’s put on the grill for two hours.
It looks absolutely yummy!
I know, I know. A friend of mine said if you’re going to eat it, you need a cardiologist on speed-dial. I don’t care. I’m going to try to make it real soon.
So what does bacon and sausage have to do with the arts?
Nothing.
I just wanted to write about the bacon explosion!
And to lead into the Old South Farm Museum in Woodland. The museum is going to have a hog killing on Saturday for “demonstration purposes.”
Paul Bullock, the owner of the farm, will kill the hog and then make sausage. I love sausage, too.
He’ll also demonstrate how to cure meat, cook meat skin, make lye soap, how to run a smoke house operation and how make Brunswick stew, head cheese and lard.
You have to register to take part in this demonstration.
Call Paul at 706-674-2894 or 706-975-9136.

Noteworthy parties
Every year, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Volunteer Association puts together what they call “Noteworthy Parties.”
Most of the parties are $20-$50.
The first is “Tip Toe Thru the Tulips,” 6 p.m. Feb. 28 for eight-14 guests. It’s $50, and includes miniature crab cakes, deviled eggs, roast tenderloin of beef, cippolini onions agrodolce, potato-fennel gratin, green beans, carrots and a dessert cart.
The final one is “Dancing Around the World” at 7:30-10:30 p.m. June 13 at Green Island Hills Country Club. George Corradino and the Cavaliers Band will provide the music. It’s $100 and features international hors d’oeuvres.
There’s one really intriguing party called “Girls Day at the Spa,” which was auctioned off at a party earlier this month. Each guest will get a half-hour massage, milk and honey body treatment, organize enzyme peel, lavender paraffin hand dip, warm foot treatment and a brow wax.
And for the first time that I can recall, the parties are venturing outside the Columbus area.
There’s one, “Plantation Supper and Ball” at the Griggs’ Plantation near Fort Tyler in West Point, Ga., at 5:30 p.m. May 2.
This party is for 40 guests and costs $75. There will be traditional Southern cooking on the menu with mint juleps and wine.
Guests are urged to wear period gowns and uniforms if they wish.
If you love wine, there’s a wine tasting at 7 p.m. March 14 for $40. You’ll get to taste a variety of wines that will be served with cheese and appetizers to complement the wines. It’s for 40 guests.
And there’s High Tea and tours of six homes at Spring Harbor from 3-5 p.m. May 3. This one can accommodate an unlimited number of people for $20 each. The menu includes hors d’oeuvres and champagne, tea and lemonade.
And in between, there are all kinds of different parties. Some are intimate gatherings for as few as six people. Others are huge parties.
Some feature a gourmet menu; while others are buffets.
If you want a brochure, call 706-323-5059 and ask for one.
