Man, 47, charged with murder in 4th Quarter Sports Bar shooting
Five days after Dominic Mitchell was fatally shot at the 4th Quarter Sports Bar, Columbus police arrested a suspect Wednesday in connection with the slaying.
Demark Ponder, 47, of Columbus was taken into custody and held in the Muscogee County Jail . He will face one count of murder during a 2 p.m. Friday hearing in Columbus Recorder's Court, said Police Lt. Greg Touchberry.
"This investigation is ongoing and hopefully more arrests will follow," he said.
Police were called to the sports bar at 6959 Macon Road around 11:30 p.m. to check on a shooting when the 33-year-old Mitchell was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Midtown Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before midnight Oct. 9 by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton.
Preliminary results of an autopsy conducted in Atlanta on Tuesday show Mitchell had two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and another to the right armpit area. Officials said one of those wounds may not have been life threatening.
Police said the investigation into Mitchell's death led to Ponder as a suspect. Detectives have said the shooting was gang related but haven't specified the alleged activity.
Anyone with information about this crime should call Cpl. D. Stokes of the Robbery-Assault Unit at 706-653-3400.
