He holds his guitar unpretentiously, in a way that makes you expect the typical mellow harmonies about having her and losing her.
Instead, you get a cover of Kanye West’s “Stronger.” And one of Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”
It’s part of what separates singer/songwriter Ben Deignan from the rest of the pack — and what has earned the Atlanta-based artist comparisons to acts like John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.
Deignan and his band, Suburban Soul, come to The Loft Saturday. Show starts at 9 p.m.
Search for Deignan on YouTube and you’ll find his eclectic mix of jazzy acoustic covers.
The collection also includes his take on hits like Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and “Rock With You.”
But the artist, who was discovered by a music industry insider while performing at his dad’s company party, also writes original material driven by cleverly infectious lyrics.
Deignan’s first full-length album is slated to be released this month. Two of the disc’s singles have been picked up for national radio promotion.
