"The Bachelorette" Jillian Harris got two surprise visits in the episode in which she was visiting five suitors' hometowns. Ed, who voluntarily left the show last week to go back to work, returned to ask Jillian for another chance. Jake stopped by Jillian's hotel room when she was visiting Wes in Texas and told Jillian that Wes had a girlfriend.
At the rose ceremony, Jillian chose her final four men:
Reid, a 30-year-old real estate agent from Philadelphia
Kiptyn, a 31-year-old California business developer
Ed, a 29-year-old technology consultant from Chicago
Wes, a 32-year-old musician from Texas
Leaving the show:
Jesse, a 27-year-old wine maker from California
Michael, a 25-year-old New York break-dancing instructor
"I was very surprised to see Ed tonight... He took away my shot... Wes is here for the wrong reasons," Jesse said.
"For a girl that just dumped me, who just broke my heart, I cannot say a bad thing about the girl," Michael said. "Oh man, I straight-up loved the girl didn't I?" he added.
When Ed returned to Los Angeles, he knocked on Jillian's door. "I realize I made a huge mistake. I got home and couldn't stop thinking about you... I think I want another shot," Ed said.
"I thought about you tons," Jillian admitted as she snuggled up to Ed on the couch.
"I made a bad choice, and I would never want to do it again that's all. So that's why you should let me come back," Ed said.
"I don't know what to say... you did miss a lot. I want to be fair to the other guys," Jillian said.
"I don't think there's anybody here that's more compatible with you than me," Ed said.
Jillian ended their encounter by telling Ed, "I think you should come to the rose ceremony tonight."
On her hometown date to Texas to visit Wes, Jillian was surprised when Jake stopped by her hotel room. "I'm not here to get you back," Jake said. He struggled to find the right words before blurting out his message. "Wes has a girlfriend. Her name is Laurel. He finally confided in me. We've talked about it more than three times," Jake said. "I want you to be happy. I want you to pick the guy who is going to worship the ground you walk on," Jake said.
"It's humiliating," Jillian said. "I'm really upset, and I'm just really disappointed," Jillian said.
Jillian confronted Wes when he came to the hotel room. The first concern Wes had was who told Jillian. After Jillian said Jake made the accusation, Wes denied it.
"That's crazy," Wes said. He said Laurel was a past girlfriend and they were still good friends, but they no longer had a romantic relationship.
Jillian called Jake and asked him to come to the hotel room and talk with Wes.
"Jake I don't have a girlfriend. I never told you I was in a relationship right now," Wes said.
Jake appeared surprised. "You would lie to my face? That's the first time you have ever done that, man. I'm so disappointed," Jake said.
After leaving Jillian and Wes, Jake said "Jillian is one of the greatest girls I have ever met. It sucks that Wes, being as selfish as he is, is still here. I don't know why he's continuing to lie to her."
Jillian seemed torn about whether or not to believe Wes, but she decided to meet his family. Because of Jake's surprise visit, Jillian and Wes were late for dinner. They explained the situation to his family and his sisters were quick to say that guys were always jealous of Wes.
"He's going to tell you the truth. I feel like he would have stepped out of this process if he wasn't really feeling feelings for you," mom Renee said.
After calling Jake a backstabber, Wes said "Jillian likes me, and that's what really what matters."
Previously Jillian traveled to San Diego to meet 31-year-old Kiptyn's family.
"This is beautiful, dude," Jillian said as the couple looked out on the beach.
Kiptyn's family had a joke prepared for Jillian. His parents put caution tape around the backyard hot tub in reference to her last season on "The Bachelor" where she and Jason Mesnick spent a lot of time soaking. His parents also tested Jillian's dining knowledge with a lasagna and wine taste test. She had to choose which of two lasagnas was made by Kiptyn's dad and which was store-bought. She also had to pick the wine that best matched the dish. She passed.
"Kiptyn's family is very polished, educated and refined... they might just think I'm a total hillbilly," Jillian said.
His mother had some tough questions for Jillian including how she would cope with an overbearing mother in law. Jillian said she appreciated honesty and directness. Kiptyn's mom was happy with Jillian's answer.
What did Jillian think about Kiptyn's mom? "She's a little intense and intimidating."
Jillian visited Jesse in Carmel, Calif. at his family's winery.
"There's an excitement in his voice. Yeah, I'm skeptical, but that made me take one little step back from my skepticism," Jacob, Jesse's brother said.
"He's like an emotional ice cube sometimes... I haven't seen anybody yet who's been able to crack his shell," Jacob confided in Jillian when she said that she and Jesse got off to a slow start.
I could get into this lifestyle... It's wicked," Jillian said after an evening of wine tasting, singing and dancing with the family.
On Jillian's visit to Michael's home, Michael and his identical twin brother tried to trick Jillian by switching clothes, but she immediately caught on to the joke.
"They love to laugh," Jillian said about Michael's family.
Jillian's first visit of the show was with Reid and his family. "It took our relationship to a new level," Jillian said.
