On Monday's "The Bachelorette" Jillian Harris sent Wes home after traveling to Spain with the four men competing for her attention and possibly her hand in marriage. Wes, a 32-year-old musician from Texas, had been accused of having a girlfriend back home and being on the show only to promote his music career.
"The first guy ever on 'The Bachelorette' to make it to the top four with a girlfriend," Wes congratulated himself in the limo ride away from Jillian. "My acting days are over. I've definitely gone as far as I could possibly have gone with Jillian."
A glass of beer in his hand, Wes was looking forward to his night, "Tonight I'm in Spain... I'm cutting off the chains...I'm a free man," Wes said. "I'm in Spain everybody's gonna know my name."
Before the rose ceremony, Wes had a message for the other guys. "If it's me, you boys know, I will be back home having lots of sex," Wes said.
Never miss a local story.
"When I walked Wes down the stairs I knew I had made the right decision," Jillian said. "The bad boy is definitely gone."
Not gone are the final three men: Reid, a 30-year-old real estate agent from Philadelphia; Kiptyn, a 31-year-old California business developer and Ed, a 29-year-old technology consultant from Chicago.
Here's a recap of the show:
Wes was Jillian's final date on Monday's show. On a bike ride in Barcelona, Wes told Jillian he could see himself living in Spain. But later Wes seemed reluctant to consider living anywhere but Austin, Texas. Things got especially awkward when Jillian wanted details on what life with Wes would be like. Instead of setting up the scenario, Wes spilled a beer and was distracted by birds. "I definitely didn't feel romance," Jillian said. "I'm a little bit worried about Wes' lack of affection."
At dinner things were even more awkward. "You are that, like, that bad boy cowboy singer that I'm always attracted to," Jillian said. She told Wes that she needed to know why he was still on the show. He seemed agitated by her questions. When quizzed about who Laurel was, Wes called her his girlfriend before quickly changing his mind and saying "ex girlfriend."
"I'm not here to hurt you. But I'm going to be true to myself 'cause, you know, numero uno is most important here," Wes said.
"I feel like he does have something to hide and he's showing it. I'm embarrassed that Wes came on here and he has a girlfriend," Jillian said.
Her first date was with Kiptyn. Jillian wanted to know if Kiptyn was ready to get married. "It's been amazing, but I think a proposal seems far off at this point." Kiptyn admitted. Jillian was understanding but honest about her feelings. "I think I want an engagement. But, like you said, I have to be realistic about it," Jillian said.
Kiptyn and Jillian took a Flamenco lesson before their dinner date. "Flamenco and me should never hang out again," Kiptyn said about his attempt to learn the sensual Latin dance moves. Their dinner discussion was serious. One of Jillian's fears about Kiptyn was how much he reminded her of her dad. Maybe the similarities were too great for a shot at romance. Jillian declined the show's invitation to forgo individual rooms and share a "fantasy suite" with Kiptyn.
On her date with Reid, he and Jillian struggled to speak Spanish with a shop owner, but their conversation with each other came without a struggle. While having a picnic, they discussed Jillian's hometown visits with the other bachelors. Reid admitted that he was jealous of the other guys which Jillian said was a sign that Reid cared for her.
Jillian pressed Reid to talk about his feelings and he said "I like you a lot." Jillian was pleased, but after a few minutes of discussion, she decided not to spend the night with Reid in the fantasy suite.
"Obviously I would love to spend the night and wake up with her in the morning. It would be amazing. But I think she wants to know how much I like her. I think it was smart on her part. It sucks for me," Reid said.
Not spending the night together wasn't an easy decision for Jillian. "I feel like I'm falling in love with Reid, and I love who I am when I'm with Reid," Jillian said.
On a horse-drawn carriage ride with Ed, Jillian asked him why he came back to last week's show after leaving the previous week to return to work. "I could not get you off my mind," Ed said.
When the invitation to the fantasy suite arrived, Jillian opened up to Ed. "I'm scared of not being rational and spending the night with you and then falling for you again and then you freaking out and leaving me again," Jillian said.
"I want to spend more time with you," Ed said. That was apparently what Jillian needed to hear. She invited Ed to go with her to the suite. Candles placed along the floor guided Ed and Jillian to the bed. But Jillian was firm. "We're sleeping in our clothes," she said.
