During a nightlife trip down Broadway, you ask a familiar question.
“What’s up with The Uptown Vault?”
Some confusion is understandable. In my relatively short time here, I’ve profiled the downtown Columbus hot spot as both a rock bar and dueling pianos venue.
The bar recently reopened as a place that boasts draws like DJ music with videos, as well as weekend games of hopscotch, hula-hooping and cornhole.
Occasionally, The Uptown Vault will host performances by popular local acts like SamRoc & GRD.
Manager Brenda Lisle maintains it’s a winning formula.
“We appeal to everyone, anywhere from the 20s to the 60s,” she said. “We know most of our customers by name. They feel at home here.”
The Uptown Vault’s current incarnation has been open about four months.
One of the biggest lures for downtown partiers? The bar rarely has a cover charge. You’ll also find a variety of drink specials.
Is it enough to secure a sense of permanence at the Broadway hot spot? Only time will tell.
But don’t be surprised if the feel-good appeal of hopscotch and hula hoops makes you optimistic about the bar’s future.
