It’s not a romantic fling or weekend hot spot, but rather Safety Cab -- the service that provides free cab rides to party goers in an effort to curb drunk driving.
Keep 706-660-6069 in your memory through Dec. 31, the program’s final day this year.
“We just want everybody to be careful,” said Jessica Pate, Safety Cab coordinator.
Now in its 28th year, Safety Cab is sponsored by St. Francis Hospital. Last year, the program provided 601 rides.
Pate strongly encourages people to appoint a designated driver before attending a holiday party.
But if those plans fall through, “they should at least be responsible enough to call Safety Cab,” she said.
The program primarily serves people in Columbus, Phenix City and Fort Benning.
Let’s not forget a question that commonly accompanies Safety Cab discussions.
Can Safety Cab be the chauffeur for my night of party hopping?
“We will not take you to another party, but we will be more than happy to take you home,” Pate said.
