"Pretty Little Liars" Season 1 Episode 15 aired Jan. 31 on ABC Family. Here's a recap of the show.
When the episode kicks off, the girls study the newly discovered photo of Alison. Remember, there’s a mysterious shadow in the picture. The girls decide the photo must have been taken from Alison’s bedroom.
Spencer approaches Alison’s brother (Jason) while he’s working out. He’s in town to take care of some family business. He thinks the photo is bizarre. He’s convinced it’s been altered.
Hanna receives a new supply of money from “A.” She hides it in a food box. Meanwhile, Hanna’s mom has a problem – Mrs. Potter, the woman from whom she stole the money, made an appointment at the bank. Ouch.
Never miss a local story.
Emily excels at swim practice and breaks a school record. This makes the team’s former star, Paige, a little jealous. She gives Emily a hard time about being a lesbian. She also gives Emily – and the other team members – a friendship bracelet.
It’s the same kind of friendship bracelet Alison gave the girls. Spencer sees the store’s name on the box and visits to find out who paid for Alison’s bracelet. Unfortunately, the saleswoman says somebody named Spencer Hastings purchased the bracelet. Yikes.
Meanwhile, Aria plans a romantic museum date with Mr. Fitz.
Hanna’s been skipping P.E. and is penalized with some serious detention. The creepy phone fixer kid volunteers to help her earn some real “bad girl stripes.”
But Hanna has bigger things on her mind. “A” promises to give her more money – if she tells Aria’s mom about the Aria/Mr. Fitz affair. Wow.
What will Hanna do? Well, the decision gets a little trickier when she learns her mom is depressed. “I will always figure out a way to take care of you,” her mom says between tears. With that, Hanna sends Aria’s mom a ticket to the museum event. She puts it in an envelope and says it’s from the PTA.
Feeling guilty, Hanna tells Aria that she and Mr. Fitz should take a break. She says she has a “bad feeling” about their museum date. Aria thinks Hanna is jealous.
Hanna tries to take the envelope from Aria’s mom, but fails. However, she scores a detention seat next to the phone fixer guy.
Time for the big date. Mr. Fitz meets Aria in a limo. Aria’s mom prepares to go to the museum, but her car breaks down. Her ex (Aria’s dad) comes to the rescue – kind of. He was on his way to a date. Awkward. On the plus side, Aria’s mom and dad eventually end up making out.
The swim coach learns about Paige’s homophobic comment. Emily won’t tell her what happened. Spencer later reveals she gave the coach the tip. Emily gets mad and says she can stand up for herself.
Jason confronts Spencer about the photo. He says it’s real after all. “For all I know, I may have taken it,” Jason says, admitting he got high a lot during the summer when Alison disappeared. Jason says he partied with Ian that whole summer. Translation: Ian was at Alison’s house for a whole summer.
Hanna’s mom learns Mrs. Potter (the woman from whom she stole the money) had a heart attack. Problem solved.
Aria survives her date with Mr. Fitz without running into her parents. Looks like Hanna is safe. How did that happen? Turns out the creepy phone fixer guy messed with Aria’s mom’s car and prevented her from arriving at the museum in time. (Although later, Aria's mom tells Aria she was at the museum...you know, to cover what really happened. Aria looks freaked out.)
Life doesn’t go as well for Emily. Paige tries to drown her when she continues to excel on the team. Looks like we have a new conflict to follow.
In the show’s final moments, Spencer reveals she’s the shadow in the photo of Alison. They had a fight that night and Spencer told Allison, “You are dead to me already.”
Then, the girls see Jason staring at them through a nearby window. Creepy.
Final cliffhanger: The friendship bracelet saleswoman chats with a visitor. We don’t see that person’s face. The saleswoman tells the visitor, “I did exactly what you told me to do.”
