"My Life as Liz" returned for a second season on MTV Tuesday night. The quasi-reality show, whose lead character boasts a "nerd herd" and a passion for "Star Wars," is somewhat of an antithesis to glamor-driven MTV reality shows like "The Hills."
If you missed the 30-minute premiere, here's a recap: Liz gets out of Texas and starts art school at the Pratt Institute in New York. The big city atmosphere seems like a perfect match for our heroine, right? Not exactly.
Liz quickly gets homesick, largely due to her uncertain romantic relationship with Bryson. He's attending college in Austin. At the school year's onset, they talked often. But as time progressed, his phone calls to Liz became less frequent.
Liz calls the "nerd herd" and pretends everything is fine, but Taylor can tell she's upset. The nerd herd drives to Austin to convince Bryson to go to New York and surprise Liz. There's just one problem: When they arrive, Bryson's roommates say he's already in New York.
Meanwhile, Liz digs through a Dumpster to find supplies for an art assignment. During the process, she meets Louis, a charming indie musician. They bond and Louis makes Liz feel more comfortable in New York -- until Sully calls her and asks why she didn't mention that Bryson was in New York.
Of course, Liz doesn't know anything about Bryson being in New York. She's shocked enough to abruptly end her afternoon with Louis.
Angry, Liz wonders why she hasn't heard from Bryson. She aimlessly strolls through the streets and sees a poster for Soft Power concert. It's one of Bryson's favorite bands, and she assumes he'll be there. She doesn't find Bryson, but she finds Louis.
They eat pizza together and Liz tells Louis her Bryson drama. After they share an awkward goodbye, it seems like Liz is almost ready to move on from Bryson -- until she finds him outside waiting for her after her walk home. Talk about a dramatic conclusion.
