Nicholas Courtney, the actor best known for portraying Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart in the British sci-fi show "Doctor Who," has died. He was 81.
Courtney stared opposite several actors who portrayed the Doctor, a mysterious alien who travels through time and space in a machine that masquerades as a police box, which is similar to a telephone booth. He worked alongside Patrick Troughton, the second actor who played the Doctor and who died in Columbus, Ga., in 1987.
Courtney most recently reprised his role in "The Sarah Jane Adventures" in 2008 alongside former Who companion played by Elizabeth Sladen.
