"Pretty Little Liars" Season 1 Episode 19 aired Feb. 28 on ABC Family. Here's a recap of the show.
Individually, the girls meet with an investigator and tell him their suspicions about Ian. Spencer doesn’t tell the detective she once kissed Ian.
There’s a cute young detective who used to live down the street from Emily. The lead detective privately tells him to figure out if the girls are lying. Later, he asks Spencer why Ian would want Alison dead. Spencer says Ian feared Alison would ruin his relationship with Melissa.
Spencer’s sister, Melissa, convinces her parents that Spencer needs to see a shrink. “There’s nothing wrong with me,” Spencer says between tears. Basically, everyone in Spencer’s family thinks she’s crazy.
Never miss a local story.
Things are awkward between Paige and Emily – you know, after the makeout session. Paige wants to pretend it never happened. Later, Emily receives a note telling her to meet Paige at a mysterious dive bar.
During their meeting, Paige says Emily is the first girl she kissed. Emily admits she was once in love with Alison. They end up singing karaoke together – and kissing.
Everything is perfect – until Paige says she doesn’t want to be seen in public with Emily. That makes Emily say they should just be friends. Awkward.
Meanwhile, Toby tells Spencer he’s moving out of his home. They have the conversation outside a motel. After Toby leaves, Spencer hears flute music. Presumably, it’s Jenna. Spencer looks in a motel room window and sees the bag Ian and Jenna exchanged in an earlier episode.
Then, she looks at the room number: 214. Remember, that was a clue from a previous episode.
Spencer and Toby sneak into the room and confirm Jenna was there. They look inside the bag and learn it’s empty.
With that, Spencer bonds with Toby in his motel room. She admires his shirtless chest and they end up cuddling.
The next morning, they hear the mysterious flute music. They run into the motel room only to learn they’ve been punked. It’s just a recording. “A” left them a message: “You’re getting colder.”
They fail as detectives, but Toby and Spencer succeed in the game of love. They kiss!
Too bad police cars are outside Spencer’s home when she gets home. Turns out she’s been named a suspect in Alison’s case. The detectives know about Spencer and Ian’s kiss. Also, Melissa says she was with Ian at Hilton Head. Apparently, they went there to get an abortion, but the baby died before she could go through with the procedure.
Caleb is still secretly living at Hanna’s place. Her mom has suspicions, though. When she finds Caleb’s backpack in the basement, he’s busted. Her mom kicks Caleb out of the house. Hanna storms out of the house and goes camping with Caleb. They have an emotional chat and Hanna reveals she spent five summers at fat camp.
Caleb reveals he never met his father. His mom dropped him off at an aunt’s house when he was young and she never came back. With that, Hanna kisses Caleb. They get pretty physical.
The next morning, Hanna and her mom get into a major fight. While Hanna is out of the room, her phone rings. It’s Caleb. Hanna’s mom answers the phone and invites Caleb over for dinner. She lets him stay over for a short time in the guest room. Aww. They’re one big happy family.
Well, not exactly. After chatting with Hanna’s mom, Caleb goes outside to make a phone call. “I can’t do this anymore. It’s over,” he says to the mysterious person on the other end of the line.
In other relationship news, Jenna and Mr. Fitz are quickly becoming friends. Naturally, this upsets Aria. Especially when “A” sends her a text message: “The lover and the scorned are now BFFs.” Ouch. Apparently, Jenna’s entering a short story contest. Mr. Fitz says Jenna’s story is about “exposing people.” Aria gets worried.
Later, Aria and Jenna have a private bathroom conversation. Jenna suggests she knows about Aria’s relationship with Mr. Fitz.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Aria tells Mr. Fitz the truth about the fire that made Jenna lose her eyesight. Their relationship remains intact.
In the show’s final moments, we see “A” watching a video of the girls learning that Spencer has been named a suspect in Alison’s case.
