Ditch those images of awkward business card exchanges.
Sure, leadership development is part of membership in the Greater Columbus Georgia Young Professionals. But just as importantly, the group is a way for 20- and 30-somethings to make friends.
“It’s the perfect way for us to get to know each other and to meet new people. It really is developing those relationships between individuals,” said Carla Plazas Epp, 2012 chair of the group.
The Young Professionals kick off 2012 with a Wednesday event at the Chamber of Commerce. The free event is an opportunity to learn more about the group. Food and beverages will be offered.
You can also purchase a membership for a special February rate of $65. Membership is open to people ages 21-40. You don’t have to be employed to join.
In addition to leadership development, Young Professionals activities include service events, social activities and more.
Some events throughout the year are open to non-members, but membership gives you access to certain exclusive events -- for example, presentations by top-tier local professional leaders.
Once you’ve joined, you can opt for various levels of involvement. You can simply be associated with the group or pursue a leadership role.
