The Cinco de Mayo Celebration and the Uptown Drum Circle originally scheduled for Saturday (May 11) have been canceled due to a poor weather forecast. Don't worry, though. There are plenty of other events still set for this weekend in the Chattahoochee Valley. Here are a few highlights:
In Uptown Columbus, the DSOS outdoor concert will continue as scheduled at 7 p.m. tonight (May 10). Shop with local vendors at Junkin’ on Broadway 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (May 11) and at the Market Days on Broadway 9 a.m.-noon. Saturday. Reception for “Incredible Places” exhibit: On view will be artwork from a variety of local artists depicting special places around the world. A reception is 5-8 p.m. at the Joseph House Art Gallery, 828 Broadway. It’s free and open to the public. Refreshments will reflect the flavor from each “Incredible Place” highlighted in the exhibit. Cirque Du Soleil’s “Quidam:” The international cast features 52 world-class acrobats, musicians, singers and characters. Shows are 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday (May 11) and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday (May 12) at the Columbus Civic Center. First Red Shoe Run 5K Walk/Run and Smile Mile: Saturday (May 11), corner of 11th Street and Broadway in Uptown Columbus. 5K is $25, $10 for children 10 and younger; $10 Smile Mile run, free for children 4 and younger. Audubon Bird Park opens at Oxbow: The new bird garden at CSU’s Oxbow Meadows opens at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 11) Activities will be held until 4 p.m. Children can participate in craft projects to create a special gift for mother or grandmother for Mother’s Day. Free. ColumbusState.edu/Oxbow.
Bloom with Excitement Family Day: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (May 11) Columbus Museum. Decorate a pet rock, create a craft tube butterfly, decorate a garden pot, get a temporary critter tattoo, make a bird feeder, take a Bradley Olmsted Garden clue tour, and watch the Environmental Epic Show by Andy Orfutt Irwin at noon. Picnic in the Garden: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hills & Dales Estate in LaGrange. Free pony rides for the children and outdoor games including badminton, bocce ball, croquet and ladder ball. Musician Robin Treadwell will entertain picnickers with old-fashioned favorites and a mix of patriotic and classic tunes.
