The book about a boy from outer space became popular when it was first published in 1943 and it is still going strong today.
"The Little Prince" has been translated into more than 250 languages and sells nearly two million copies annually.
Now those unfamiliar with the story can see what all the fuss is about and those who have read it can see their favorite characters come to life.
The play adaptation of the story by Antoine De Saint-Exupery is being presented July 10-26 by the Springer Children's Theatre.
Never miss a local story.
It is not on the main stage of the Springer Opera House but in the McClure Theatre, the entrance of which is on First Avenue.
In the story, a pilot crashes in the Sahara desert and as repairs are being made on the airplane, the pilot meets a mysterious boy who says he is a survivor from an asteroid.
The two discuss many subjects and the boy tells the pilot: "One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible."
Playing the pilot is Juliana Cowart, who has appeared in Springer shows including "Shrek: The Musical" and "A Christmas Carol." She has also appeared in plays at Northside High School including "Peter Pan," and "Into the Woods."
Playing the alien is Julia Allen, who has played in "Beauty and the Beast," "The Music Man" and "Alice in Wonderland" at Columbus High School. With the Springer Children's Theatre, she has appeared in "Ramona Quimbly" and "The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer."
Directing the show is Melissa Wilks, who was teacher of the year for Muscogee County in 2008. She has taught for more than 15 years at the Springer Theatre Academy.
An animated film version of the story was shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year. It features the voices of Jeff Bridges, Paul Rudd and Rachel McAdams.
