For seventeen years, Wanda Amos has brought gifts and joy to children hospitalized at Columbus Regional's Midtown Medical Center during the holidays. In years past, her elves on these visits were coaches and players from the Columbus Cottonmouths, the hockey team she and husband Shelby Amos owned and operated. The Cottonmouths ceased operations earlier this year. Amos then reached out to Scott Ressmeyer and the Miracle Riders to join her for this year's Christmas visit to the hospital.
Two Springer favorites continue this year what has become a holiday tradition for residents of the Chattahoochee Valley.Actors and comedians Jim Pharr and Ben Redding star in the Springer's 2017 production of "A Tuna Christmas." Pharr and Redding play all 24 citizens of Tuna, Texas, a fictional Texas town that struggles each year with a disastrous production of “A Christmas Carol,” has yard displays vandalized by a mysterious Christmas Phantom, and has a Humane Society filled with iguanas, coyotes, sheep and myna birds. An estimated 60,000 patrons have seen "A Tuna Christmas" at the Springer through the years. This year's run kicks off December 14.
Three and four-year-old children from the St. Paul Preschool at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Columbus, escorted by their parents and teachers, made the short walk from the church to Lakebottom Park Monday morning to tie scarves onto the railing of the bridge near the playground during their Second Annual "Hanging Out at the Bridge" event. Nearly 32 children in the classes have been collecting scarves since the fall leave at the bridge. A sign encourages anyone who needs one to simply take one. The school's motto is "If you think that our hands are full, you should see our hearts."
