IT'S HER 'TIME': Clinton backers take notice
I've been in touch off and on for years with Jennie Walker, the Columbus girl who always loved to sing and write songs. She was president of the Georgia Music Industry Association for two years before she moved to New York City in 2000.
In New York City, she started the Jennie Walker Co.
Now, she's getting some attention with her new song, "It's Our Time," which has received a following among the Hillary Clinton supporters.
You can see it at
/watch?v=jzKcpTfXJc8 It now has more than 3,600 hits.
After she e-mailed me about that, I got another missive from her.
"This momentum with the song, 'It's Our Time,' is reaching a new level," Jennie wrote. "The song and video has now been parodied on YouTube! How did I find out?
"Well, I was sent a video response to my video called, 'For Hillary.'
"To my surprise, it was a video with women who were being shown in, let's just say, not their best light. And the images were edited to match my song.
"It took me a moment to realize what had happened. My mouth is still hanging open."
Jennie said it "is in very bad taste." It must have been because it's been removed from the Web site.
I got a call from Jennie last week and I asked if she'd met Clinton.
"No, but I would love to meet her," she said.
Like I said, I've known Jennie for years, but she told me something that I had never heard before.
Her grandfather, E. Oren Smith, was one of the architects of the Ledger-Enquirer building. Not the six-story one, but the Mediterranean-looking one on the corner of 12th Street and Front Avenue.
He also designed the Government Center, Hardaway High School and the 12th Street post office.
I had no idea.
Anyway, I hope Jennie finally gets the attention she deserves with this song and gets to meet Clinton, too.
