A Jordan High School freshman football player collapsed during an early evening practice Monday at the high school.

Jordan coach Tony Graziano said the teenager, who recently moved to Columbus from upstate New York, was participating in conditioning drills near the end of practice at approximately 7 p.m. when he collapsed.

"He's doing fine," said Graziano, who refused to identify the player. "He just got a little overheated. He's only been here a short period of time and has not gotten acclimated to the weather here yet."

Chattachoochee Valley high schools are in the early days of preseason drills for the upcoming football season. The team was not in full pads, only helmets and shorts.

The player was given fluids and was expected to be released from the hospital.
