The Columbus softball team defeated Northside 5-0 to claim its first Class AAA state title Saturday at South Commons.

Blue Devils pitcher Chandler Padgett picked up her fourth win in three days. She did not allow a run through each of the four Elite Eight games Columbus played.

Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth after an overthrow to first base allowed in Amanda Stucky, and a Daniella Glover single carried in another.

The Blue Devils bolstered their lead with a three-run fifth inning, getting scores from Octavia Lewis-Rand, Liz Lochner and another from Stucky.

Padgett struck out two and allowed two hits.

Northside’s Haley Love struck out three and gave up five hits.
