LaGRANGE, Ga. — Callaway tuned up for the first round of the state playoffs with a 55-10 win over Pike County on Senior Night at Callaway Stadium.
The Cavaliers finished the regular season 8-2 with its eighth straight win.
The Cavaliers completed a perfect Region 5-AA record at 8-0. The Cavaliers outscored their region opponents by an average of 49-9 in the eight games. Heard County was the only team to lead Callaway at halftime.
Thursday night, the Cavaliers got three first quarter scores before turning it over to special teams and its defense in the second quarter.
The Cavaliers ran only four plays from scrimmage in the second quarter.
In the first quarter, Marquis Terrell scored three touchdowns — 15, 50 and 5 yards.
Pike got a 26-yard field goal by Andrew Chau in the second quarter.
D.J. Rutledge took the ensuing kickoff at his 5 and went the distance untouched.
Randy Bailey picked off Pike’s Nate Ferrell in the end zone, picked up blockers and went 100 yards. Later, Quantavious Leslie raced 78 yards with the Cavaliers’ fourth interception of the first half and another TD.
The Cavaliers will open the state Class AA playoffs next week at Callaway Stadium against the fourth seed from Region 8, Riverside Military.
