Jordan High used an explosive offense that piled up 412 yards of total offense as the Red Jackets ended their 2009 season with a 26-8 conquest of Spencer High Saturday night at Kinnett Stadium.
Jordan split the total almost in half as they got 204 yards in the first half and 208 yards in the second half against the Greenwave. Jordan finished the year 4-6 and Spencer was 2-8.
“I was proud of the way our guys finished out the game,” said a Gatorade-drenched Jordan head coach Dave Numberg after the game. “We lost a tough one last week to Manchester and I appreciated their effort.
“Our line blocked well all night and all the backs ran well. The four wins I understand are the most Jordan has had as a program in the last 12 years,” the Red Jackets head coach added.
“We put the ball on the ground at some wrong times and then missed assignments we should not be missing this late in the year,” said Spencer coach Oliver Davis after the game.
Spencer trailed 26-0 before finally getting on the board in the fourth quarter and Davis was not happy with his line play.
“We did not do a good enough job protecting our quarterback,” Davis said.
Jordan took a 14-0 lead at halftime on the legs of quarterback Safari Evans. Evans ran for both touchdowns, one on a 37-yard end run on the first play of the second quarter and another on a three-yard run later in the same period.
Spencer was able to move the ball between the 20’s with the running of Raheem Zeno, who had 84 yards by halftime but missed scoring chances.
Both Marquez Cohen and Dontavious Crocker went over 100 yards rushing and both scored touchdowns in the second half. Cohen was 14 for 130 yards and Crocker was 12 for 104.
Spencer quarterback Ronick Nathan finally got the Greenwave on the scoreboard when he pass 27 yards to Tremaine Jackson and then hit Donald Crayton on a two-point pass in the fourth quarter. He finished with 12 of 26 passes for 131 yards.
