The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, 1002 Victory Drive, has begun cell phone tours on a trial basis.
For the next month, visitors can use their personal cell phones, call a number and listen to descriptions of five different exhibits.
Bruce Smith, the director of the museum, said he had researched the various companies that provide pre-recorded, self-guided tours like the ones used at the Columbus Museum.
The cell phone tours seemed to be the best one, he said. With the current technology, his staff can change the descriptions, as well as add and subtract exhibit spots he wants visitors to learn about.
The call is long-distance, and takes about 10 minutes.
The museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Tickets are $6.50, $5.50 for active duty military personnel and seniors 65 and older, $5 for students and children 6 and younger get in free.
