Any time we get to see local blues artist Precious Bryant perform, it's a good night. Couple her with smoking modern blues axeman Sean Costello, and you get a hot double billing. Make it a free concert, and only idiots won't be there.
That's Friday night's Spring Concert Series show, which goes 7-11 p.m. at the new stage on the 1100 block of Broadway. It's a two-block street closing, so folks can buy a drink anywhere on the 1000 and 1100 blocks and stroll up to the show. call 706-596-0011.
After that concert, I'll wander into one of the downtown clubs (sans beer) — either The Loft to see The Fiddleworms, which features former Drive-By Trucker Rob Malone or Rhino's where Continue and Save will play mod alt-rock. C&S is also performing at Summer Side Show on Saturday (see Sonya's picks for details), but the Rhino's gig will offer a longer set by one of the best bands on the bill. Both show start around 10 p.m.
Saturday night, the wife and I are off to the ballpark with springer spaniel and beagle in tow. The Columbus Catfish are sponsoring Bark in the Park night, with prizes for pups in different categories. Cutest dog is going to one of our pups, but the other categories are up for grabs. Tickets start around $5, and the first pitch is at 7 p.m. Call 706-571-8866.
