NASA Chief Says Civilian Space Program Is Lagging
Dr. T. Keith Glennan, chief of the Civilian Space Agency, said today “we are not nearly as far advanced in space technology as we had thought or hoped.”
Glennan also made this concession:
“Our experiences in the pace vehicle field have been less than completely satisfactory.”

Congress Gets New Members
Hawaii’s two senators and one representative took office today.
Republican Sen. Hiram L. Fong twice out lucked Democratic Sen. Oren E. Long and won both the title of senior senator from the new 50th state and a six-year term.
In the House, Rep. Daniel K. Inouye, World War II hero who lost his right arm fighting in Italy, raised his left hand and took the oath.
