The Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League have signed linebacker Torry Cornett, the anchor of the Cincinnati Bearcats defense that reached the BCS 2009 Orange Bowl.
Cornett (6-foot-2, 242 pounds), a native of Ohio, began his collegiate career as a basketball player at Prairie View A&M. After averaging 6.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in one season, he transferred to Cincinnati to play football and be closer to family and friends.
As a senior, Cornett started all 14 games at linebacker and produced 69 tackles (42 solo) and one sack as the Bearcats won their first Big East Conference title.

“Part of having a great defense is having the athletes who can evenly match up with offensive playmakers,” Lions coach Jason Gibson said in a news release. “Torry has the chance to be a huge difference maker for us, whether it’s getting after the quarterback or playing defensive back.”
