Joseph Brewer, a singer and recent graduate of Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, is a finalist in the Songster Contest held by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He is one of three singers who will sing “Over the Rainbow” Saturday night with the ASO.
The ASO is accompanying the movie screening of “The Wizard of Oz” at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Encore Park and the finalists sing before the concert. The singing competition will be streamed live online and people who listen will be able to vote via text message or online. The winner, announced at intermission, gets two round-trip tickets to New York City in October.
Brewer, who worked with the Springer Opera House’s Theater Academy this summer, has performed with the ASO before. When he was a child, he sang an operatic version of “Green Eggs and Ham.”
Brewer found out last week that he was a finalist. He had one wish. “Just let Columbus know to vote for me,” he said.
