Fishermen get your hooks, lines, sinkers and bait ready because Uchee Creek Campground will host a series of bass fishing tournaments beginning Sept. 18.
“We have a lot of fishermen at Fort Benning and some of them asked about a tournament, so we thought it was a good idea,” said Dana Weiler, Uchee Creek manager. “This is something competitive and fun for fishermen.”
The tournament is for beginners and experts, and children can attend as long as an adult accompanies them.
Participants will fish in a 15- to 25-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River from 7 a.m. to noon by boat only. Fishing on the bank is prohibited.
The three fishermen with the highest total weight and the fisherman who has the biggest fish will win cash prizes. Only bass count toward the total weight.
The tournaments are open to the public and will be every third Saturday of the month until November. Depending on the popularity, there may be some winter tournaments also, Weiler said.
