The seventh annual Fort Benning Oktoberfest, sponsored by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, drew more than 9,000 people to Uchee Creek Oct. 22 through Sunday.
The event featured a keg tapping ceremony, German music and food, hayrides, a canine costume competition, a 10K Cross Country Race and free activities for children.
“Friday night was the largest crowd since the inception of Oktoberfest here on post,” said Bridgett Siter, e-commerce marketing specialist with DFMWR.
“On post, this is the seventh annual,” she said. “Of course, for the entire Oktoberfest, it’s the 200th anniversary. “We make it as authentic as possible by working closely with our German liaisons and those in the community with German heritage, including the local German club.”
Siter said the folks at DFMWR always like to hear feedback from the community, including photos. To become a fan on Facebook, visit www.facebook.com/BenningFMWRfans.
