The Columbus Lions, the local Southern Indoor Football League team, have announced their 2011 schedule.
The Lions open the season March 20 on the road against a new team in Huntsville, Ala.. The home opener will be March 27 against Richmond (Va.).
“This is by far the best schedule we have had since I have been in arena/indoor football,” Lions coach Jason Gibson said in a news release. “We only have two overnight trips, and our travel budget is the lowest in our franchise’s history.”
The SIFL, which recently merged with the American Indoor Football Association, will have 16 teams in the 2011 season. They will be split into four three-team divisions (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and Gulf) and one four-team division (Southwest).

All teams play regionally within their divisions. No team will travel farther than their neighboring divisions.
The other 15 SIFL teams are Erie, Pa., Harrisburg Pa., Trenton, N.J., Richmond, Va., Fayetteville, N.C., Charlotte, N.C., Albany, Ga., Huntsville, Ala., Mobile, Ala., Lafayette, La., Lake Charles, La., Houston, Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas, Rio Grande Valley, Texas and Abilene, Texas.
