WLTZ at 9 a.m. for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Giant balloons, marching bands, Tom Turkey and Santa — if it’s Thanksgiving, it must be parade day in New York and probably at your house. The 84th edition of the ultimate Broadway show is slated to feature appearances by Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly), late-night host Jimmy Fallon, rapper Kanye West, Jessica Simpson and more. Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer and Al Roker host the festivities.
WRBL at 12:30 p.m. for NFL Football
Nothing goes better with a Thanksgiving feast than football. Three NFL games are on tap this Turkey Day, starting with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots visiting the Detroit Lions on CBS. Then on Fox, Drew Brees and the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints visit the Dallas Cowboys. Finally, Carson Palmer and the Cincinnati Bengals head to New Meadowlands Stadium to take on Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets in the nightcap on NFL Network.
WXTX at 8 p.m. for TV’s Funniest Holiday Moments: A Paley Center for Media Special
Get your “Ho, ho, ho!” on with this new special, which revisits 30 laughable clips from holiday specials and series episodes. The Thanksgiving food fight from Cheers, the holiday newsletter scene from Two and a Half Men and a Christmas disaster on Family Guy are on the list, along with memorable moments from WKRP in Cincinnati, Friends and A Charlie Brown Christmas, among others.
TBS at 8 p.m. for The Wizard of Oz
The memories! The colors! Toto, too! Almost every child knows the story of Dorothy and her faithful dog blown by a twister to the magical land of Oz. Judy Garland stars as a more mature version of Dorothy in this 1939 classic adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s book. She and Toto follow the yellow brick road, making friends with an unlikely trio along the way. Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Margaret Hamilton and Frank Morgan co-star.
WRBL at 9 p.m. for November Christmas
In this new Hallmark Hall of Fame production, the citizens of a small Rhode Island community work together to help a couple bring the holidays, from Halloween to Christmas, to their gravely ill 8-year-old daughter several weeks early. Sam Elliott, John Corbett, Karen Allen, Sarah Paulson and Emily Alyn Lind star.
WRBL at 8 p.m. for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This well-known tale of the most famous reindeer of all offers a thoughtful lesson about discrimination. Young Rudolph is teased by the other reindeer and excluded from their games because his nose is different. His taunters sing a different tune, though, when Rudolph uses his nose to keep Christmas from being canceled. Songs include Holly Jolly Christmas and We’re a Couple of Misfits. Burl Ives narrates.
WLTZ at 8 p.m. for Christmas in Rockefeller Center
The 78th annual tree-lighting ceremony takes place in New York, accompanied by performances by a glittering array of musical stars including Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Jackie Evancho, Josh Groban, Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue and Jessica Simpson. Natalie Morales and Al Roker of Today host the festivities.
