First up, it's Aaron Kelly. Oh boy. The kids are describing each other tonight. We learn Aaron's nickname on set is Yoda. He doesn't know if it's a compliment. Casey calls him "a very mature kid."
Aaron sings "The Long and Winding Road." Sigh. Teenage contestant David Archuleta performed this on season 7.
Hmm. I'm not too crazy about this performance. It's rough on the lower notes and Aaron's stage presence is just plain boring. He doesn't do anything to personalize the song. He's not a lost cause, but his lack of versatility is really showing. I enjoy the power notes at the end, though. He's wise to finish the song with a big glory note, one of his major strengths.
Randy: "This is one of the ones that needed to be changed up."
Ellen: "It felt like a long and winding song."
Kara: "Every week for me, it's feeling like the same performance." Aaron promises he has something special planned for next week.
Simon asks Aaron why he chose the song. Aaron says his "Idol" journey has been a long and winding road. Simon rolls his eyes. His verdict?
"It was very old-fashioned, very boring...You've got to become young and relevant.
