My mother turned 80 today.
She has lived through the Depression, the fire bombing of Tokyo during World War II, the deprivations after the war, having six children (one who died as an infant), moving to Arizona and learning English. She's adapted to life as a diabetic. She survived both Daddy and her beloved Pomeranian's deaths. And in 2007, made it through quadruple bypass surgery.
Never miss a local story.
She's been through a lot, and we all love her. I know she missed Dorothy, who is in Djibouti.
But today, her favorite son is here, three daughters (including me), one grandson and great-grandson.
We're going to celebrate tonight!
Happy birthday, Mommy!
