It may seem strange to link these two events, but stay with me.
Winter, of which today is the first day, is a time of closure.
The year ends, and with it people also hope to leave behind bad habits, excess weight, failures, etc. - we make resolutions for the new year with the hopes that what may have gone awry this year will not make a repeat appearance in the next.
In that sense, winter can also be a time of renewal - when one door closes another inevitably (and proverbially) opens.
Brittany Murphy, a 32-year-old actress who young girls fell in love with in "Clueless," died yesterday. I'm not going to pretend to be in pieces about it - it's sad, but I didn't know the girl. She seemed cute and fun and my heart goes out to her friends and family, but it really has no effect on me. Then again, I felt pretty much the same way after Michael Jackson's death, a loss that much of the world felt as though it were a family member.
And I actually just watched one of Brittany's movies the other day, "Love and Other Disasters," and I liked it. I remember thinking that she was more talented than I probably gave her credit for in the past.
But there are rumors that drugs are involved. Celebs are taking to Twitter to offer their condolences.
The final chapter of her life came just before the winter, but a new life began for a Jonas Brother, one of wedded bliss, as they say.
Kevin Jonas married Danielle Deleasa Saturday night.
I can't find any pictures yet, but it sounds like it was gorgeous - and she wore Vera W ang.
The point of this post is to say that winter is both a time to let go and to begin anew. And don't do drugs.
